Toastmasters Club

QUICK FACTS:
We meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month normally at 6:45 pm at The College Church, 58 Pomeroy Terrace, Northampton, MA.  (This gives us 15 minutes to settle in, greet friends, get a snack, and be ready to start our business meeting promptly at 7:00p.)

Our next club meeting is our Semi-Annual Open House on Wednesday, March 17th at 6:30p This is a great time to invite family, friends, and coworkers to come and see what Toastmasters is all about.  Please note we are gathering a little earlier than usual to allow for a little extra snack/mingling time.  The meeting itself will begin promptly at 7:00p.

MEMBERS:  Be sure to bring your Competent Leadership Manual with you each time we gather - get credit for the work you do in the meeting!
CLUB NEWS:
    • It's Renewal Time!  Please get a check to our Treasurer, Ian Fraser, to renew your membership for the next 6 months (April 1 to September 30).  The amount is $32 made payable to Speakeasy Toastmasters, which includes the $27 semi-annual dues to Toastmasters International plus $5 semi-annual club dues.  Contact Ian for more information and/or payment options.
    • Congratulations to Cathie McCoy for completing her Competent Communication award (#2!).  This gets us half way to a point in the Distinguished Club Program (DCP) - who will be the 2nd person to get a CC by June 30th?  See Nicole Provencher for more details.
    • Congratulations to Peg Robbins who has completed her Advanced Leadership Bronze Award!  That's another DCP point for the club!
    • As of March 1, Toastmasters International recognizes that Speakeasy has 6 points for the Distinguished Club Program, which makes our club at least "Distinguished".  We need 3 more Competent Communication and 2 Advanced Communication awards by June 30th to finish the year with a perfect score.  If you are close, it may be time to rev up the engine to push for the finish line!  (You can track our progress on the DCP at the "Club Goals" link on the left hand side of this page.)
    • Area Speech Contest:  Come and cheer the winners of our Club Speech Contests--Mike Finn for International and Jesse Wolff for Tall Tales-- who will represent Speakeasy at the  Area E2 Speech Contest on Monday, April 5th.  See the Club Calendar for more details, including directions to the meeting place.
    • Division Speech Contest:  The winners of all Area Speech Contests will compete at the Division E Speech Contest on Thursday, April 15th.  More information will be made available soon - but for now be sure to save the date!
    • District 53 Spring Conference registration is open now!  The conference will take place on Saturday, May 22nd, with an option to arrive Friday night for some extra fun and activities.  Go to www.district53toastmasters.org and select "Conferences" from the left hand menu.  Please note that May 1st is the deadline for the "Early Bird" registration discount.

Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped millions of men and women become more confident in front of an audience. Our network of clubs and their learn-by-doing program are sure to help you become a better speaker and leader. Why pay thousands of dollars for a seminar when you can join a Toastmasters club for a fraction of the cost and have fun in the process?

Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation. Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retiree, Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities. You’ll be more persuasive and confident when giving presentations, and you’ll improve your one-on-one dealings with others.

Don’t worry! Everyone in a Toastmasters club was once at the level you are now. The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced program allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment. And you’ll love the applause! Constructive evaluation is the heart of the Toastmasters program. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths and suggest improvements. At first you’ll be applauded for your effort; later you’ll be applauded for your skill.
